VAM or 40th?
Page 1
1–9
For a brief moment, I WAS thinking of maybe buying this German para outfit. Seller claims it is 100% vintage and "original from the 70s" - even when I asked him/her via an ebay pm.
I have my doubts about it being VAM - mainly because the smock's color is too green and because it has a narrow and closed collar (all the vintage ones I've seen have a more yellowish background color and a wider, open collar).
A few days ago, I asked for photos to be sent to my email, he/she agreed but for some reason I have not received any.
What do you think? VAM or 40th?
(photos are from the auction page)
Definately vintage , ! 100%
Yep thats vintage for sure!
An old photo & not the best...
Everyone, thank you for your help - especially Nick and Tim for the reference photos - guys like you is why this is such an excellent forum.
I have no deep knowledge of the 40th stuff (when they came out and the following 2-3 years, I was on a hiatus from collecting, for personal reasons) and I have already been "burned" by an ebay seller in this matter (when I addressed his vague and ambiguous item description his reply was "not my fault you cannot recognize the new stuff, you should have asked me to clarify", etc.). So, since then, if I have had no prior interaction with the seller - or knowledge of him/her - whenever I am to buy anything expensive, especially if loose, VAM from ebay I request photos and specifically ask about the item being true vintage or not. This time, the fact that the seller never sent me photos and that he/she seemed peeved when I asked him/her questions (although he/she has only been at ebay for a couple of months) made me suspicious. Also, the photos I have seen at various reference books seemed different to me but I guess that was just me being biased.
Anyway, thank you all for your input and assistance (but still I am not going to buy this outfit as I think he/she is asking too much for it).
I would say £30-£40 would be a fair estimate for the outfit if it helps Yorgos.
Thank you Tim, the estimate you quoted seems to me to be right on the money (excuse the pun) - not that I am such an expert at prices but the £60 asked for it seemed to me to be too much. Thanks, again.
It is a nice outfit indeed Yorgos - looks to be in very condiiton too - often the breast badge is missing and the helmet decals also , however I agree £60 asking price is too much
